BMI is a great way to help patients get on track

Providence Health Plans is committed to doing its part to fight the obesity epidemic. Weight factors into nearly every conversation about health these days – and we'd like you to keep the conversation going. If you don't address it already, we think body mass index, or BMI, is a great way to broach a patient's risk for diseases, including diabetes, gallstones, heart disease, high blood pressure, breathing problems and certain cancers. BMI can tell your patients a lot about where they're at, and can give them a great starting point to make improvements.

As the medical expert, you can help patients understand what BMI is and how it is used as a tool to gauge whether a person is obese, overweight or within a healthy weight range.

For your convenience, we have included a BMI chart, available through ProvLink. You must be logged in to access this tool.

If you have a patient who is struggling with weight and looking for additional support in getting on track to better health, we can help. Providence Care Management will take provider or patient referrals. Email caremanagement@providence.org.
