Holiday Weight

Sweet potato soufflé. Maple-glazed ham. Asparagus sautéed in olive oil and served under butter. Potatoes gratin. Autumn greens bathed in bleu cheese. And chocolate cherry trifle for dessert.

And you wonder why your pants are snug?

Who doesn't love to eat at the holidays? From cultural favorites to new dishes sure to become a family tradition, we celebrate our blessings with food. But for those of us who cannot eat with impunity, the celebration of those blessings becomes a curse in the form of a bulging waistline.

The holidays are a ridiculous time to have to practice portion control, balanced eating and moderation, but if you can find a way to do it, even half the time, you may come out the other side with your pride — and your pants — intact.
