When cancer comes into your life

Cancer is a powerful force to reckon with. When it comes into your life or into the life of someone you love, your life, and theirs, is irrevocably changed. Knowing where to turn for treatment and support can be challenging. Being able to track information — from screenings to diagnosis, treatment to prognosis — is a task no one should be faced with, and yet so many of us are forced down that path. We go to sleep one day, cancer on the periphery of our lives, and wake the next day to see that it is now staring us down.

In 2012 alone, roughly 1.6 million new cases were diagnosed; of those, nearly 600,000 people lost their battle with the disease. Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the United States.
