Providence Health Plans has been named among top health care companies in the 2012 Portland Business Journal "Most Admired Companies" awards. The awards are given based on results of a survey of chief executives in Oregon and southwest Washington. Of the 83 companies nominated in the health care category, Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, Providence Portland Medical Center and Providence Health Plan all landed in the top 10.
Providence Health Plans has been one of the "Top 10 Most Admired Health Care Companies" in each of the seven years the awards have been presented, beginning in 2006.
Providence Health Plans Ranked Among the Nation's Best by Medicare
Providence Medicare Extra (HMO) and Choice (HMO-POS) Plans have been awarded an overall 4.5 star (out of 5 stars) quality rating by Medicare for 2012. This puts Providence among the highest-rated plans in the nation.
Medicare Advantage health plans are rated on performance in five categories: health plan responsiveness and care; managing chronic (long-term) conditions; health plan customer service; staying healthy, including screenings, tests and vaccines; and member complaints, which includes problems getting services and choosing to leave the health plan.
Medicare Part D drug plans are rated in four categories: customer service; member complaints, which include problems getting services and choosing to leave the health plan; member experience; and drug pricing and patient safety.
Providence Health Plans has been serving the needs of Medicare beneficiaries for the past 25 years.

No. 1 in customer satisfaction and loyalty
Providence Health Plan was rated No. 1 among health insurers in customer satisfaction within the greater Portland metropolitan area. Providence also is the leading health plan that people are likely to recommend to their family, friends and colleagues. Blue Research, a Portland-based market research firm that specializes in health care, found in its August 2011 report that Providence Health Plans rated statistically higher than all other major health insurers in the area – including Regence, Kaiser Permanente, ODS and UnitedHealthcare – in customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Easing the way with highly integrated health care
Providence Health & Services, Oregon Region, ranks among the top 10 most integrated health systems in the country, according to a list of the top 100 most highly integrated health systems published by IMS Health. Providence continues to demonstrate its leadership nationally in providing streamlined care to members. A national network of compassionate, quality care
With more than 375,000 members nationwide, Providence offers a robust network to meet the distinct needs of each unique member. Our members have access to nearly 1 million providers coast to coast.
For the past eight years, Providence Care Management has been administered by registered nurses who work directly for Providence Health Plan, with significant measurable outcomes. The program received an award for excellence in disease management outcomes in 2010 for achieving the greatest reduction in coronary artery disease, or CAD, events in the Disease Management Purchasing Consortium's national database. The program also received awards from the consortium in 2010-2011 for:
- Recognition of commitment to and achievement of validly measured outcomes in the common chronic condition programs categories of asthma; CAD; congestive heart failure, or CHF; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD; and diabetes;
- Recognition as one of the top performers in achieving a valid return on investment in disease management programs; and
- Achieving the lowest adverse medical event rate in the consortium's national database for disease management programs.
Providence also scores high in member satisfaction, with rates ranging from 96.6 percent to 98.5 percent for members with COPD, diabetes, CHF and CAD.
Best member health and wellness newsletter
Providence's Health Balance® member newsletter was recognized in 2011 by the League of American Communications Professionals with a bronze award for overall narrative and overall visual design. The award was given as part of the Spotlight Awards Global Communications Competition, which saw more than 1,500 competitors from organizations such as Audi, BMW, GE, Coca-Cola and Procter & Gamble.
Health Balance also has been recognized with an international Award of Excellence (top award) in the Newsletter–Medical category. Health Balance is a semi-annual health and wellness publication mailed to our commercial, Medicare and Medicaid members. Award-winning worksite wellness campaign
Providence Health Plan was recognized in May 2011 by the Aster Awards with a gold award in patient education for its "Pick the Low-Hanging Fruit" worksite wellness tool kit. The Aster Awards, which honor medical marketing, recognized this resource for its focus on helping employers successfully implement a healthy eating campaign among employees, in the work place and at home.

Responsible stewardship of the environment
Providence Health Plan member materials are available electronically and printed on paper that is at least 50 percent recycled and 25 percent consumer waste.
Providence employees recycle 1,849 tons of materials annually, including enough paper to save 36,000 trees.
